Welcome...

Your Space, Your Voice.png
Welcome to GROWS—Greener Resources for Our Wingfield and Stowford!
Think of this website as our online village hall, a space where everyone in our community can come together to connect, share ideas, and stay informed.

Our parish is truly a special place, rich in history and surrounded by natural beauty. It’s no surprise that so many of us choose to stay within this wonderful community, moving homes locally rather than leaving the area. We’re fortunate to call Wingfield and Stowford home.

GROWS is a friendly, resident-led group that we’d love you all to be part of. Committed to preserving and enhancing our villages and environment, we believe that while we may not always see eye to eye on everything, we can all rally around shared values like love, compassion, and care for our villages and each other.

Our goal is to keep our villages vibrant and resilient, focusing on small, impactful actions that create lasting positive change for all of us. There’s no pressure—just support, practical resources, groups, activities, events, and fresh ideas for nurturing our community’s sustainability, biodiversity, beauty, and charm. Working collaboratively with St Mary’s Church, local farmers, businesses, and Bradford-on-Avon Climate Friendly, we aim to share resources and work together for the benefit of all.

Let’s keep growing together, creating a legacy of green, thriving spaces for current and future residents and generations to enjoy!
If you want instant contact, for advice, support, offering things like plants, extra food, or requiring transport, or plant pots... or if you just want to listen in on the village chat, why not join our village WhatsApp group?

Our
Villages
Impact

06

We can not escape the eye of 'Big Brother' recording all of our habits, activities, and lifestyles. According to government-sanctioned Insight Tools, Wingfield and Stowford data denote that, despite our rural location, like many other historic villages, we inadvertently harm the environment and impact climate change. Our per household footprint of CO2 consumption is 20.9t CO2e. HIGHER than the county and country averages. Wiltshire's per household footprint is 13.9t CO2e and the UK's is 13.5t CO2e.

Dog in Farm

Why so high?

There are several reasons why our villages produce more CO2. The biggest challenge is the age of our homes, followed by our remoteness and need to travel, and then our consumer and gardening habits.

Action at the local level is essential to meeting the UK’s legally binding climate target to reach Net Zero by 2050.
Find out more about the Environment Act 2021

More than half of the emissions cuts needed rely on people and businesses adopting low–carbon solutions—decisions that are made at a local and individual level.

If 100 companies are responsible for 70% of emissions, what can you do?
If most of the problem is caused by enormous corporations and slow-moving governments, what are we supposed to do about it? Here’s what:

  • Vote with your wallet
  • Raise your voice
  • Get involved in collective action
  • Understand that system changes require personal shifts
  • Be aware that this is for your future generations benefit.

Why does it matter?

01.

Preserve Your Surroundings

When you invest in green practices, you’re helping to protect the very beauty, nature, and tranquility that make Wingfield and Stowford such a special place to call home. Simple actions like planting native plants or avoiding chemical pesticides can turn your garden into a haven for wildlife, boosting biodiversity right outside your window. A thriving natural landscape supports pollinators and helps balance the ecosystem around you.

02.

Safeguard Your Future Generations from Climate Change

Taking steps to reduce your carbon footprint, like installing energy-efficient heating or using fewer single-use plastics, directly impacts the future climate we’ll all live in. These actions help protect the world around you and provide a stable, healthy environment for years and generations to come.

03.

Increase the Value of Your Home

Sustainable features like solar panels, insulation, and heat pumps can also raise the market value of your home. In addition, a high energy performance certificate (EPC) rating makes your property more attractive to potential buyers and adds long-term financial benefits.

04.

Save Money on Utilities

Eco-friendly upgrades are often cost-effective: they can drastically cut down energy bills and reduce water usage. Implementing energy-saving practices or investing in efficient appliances can mean substantial savings that you’ll notice month by month.

05.

Enhance Community Appeal

Each sustainable improvements and community group efforts we make adds to the overall charm of Wingfield and Stowford. The more each of us invests in our village, the more desirable and appealing it becomes—not just for us but for future generations and potential residents who value a close-knit, connected, kind and friendly, eco-conscious community. It's about being part of somethiing bigger.
